(Aurora, IL, Friday, November 11, 2016) – Immigration Attorney Moises Barraza urges immigrants not to fear a Trump presidency and instead to call on the President-elect to work with Congress to pass immigration reform.
“President-elect Donald Trump stated in his acceptance speech that he will work to unify America and serve the forgotten,” said Attorney Moises Barraza, founder of the Immigration Law Office of Moises Barraza. “We must focus on unity and remind our country that immigrants are a vital part of American society and economy. I encourage immigrants to make their voices heard, asking Mr. Trump and Congress to work across party lines to pass immigration reform.”
Many immigrants are afraid and uncertain of the future under Trump’s presidency. In response, Attorney Barraza suggests the following action items:
1. Urge President-elect Trump to turn away from negative campaign rhetoric and focus on his promise of unity.
There are nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States of America. Most came here to flee persecution in their own countries or simply to find a better life for themselves and their families.
2. Appeal to Congress to pass immigration reform.
Thus far, politicians have failed to properly address the broken immigration system. For example, more people were deported under Obama’s presidency than under any other president.
Immigration reform can only be successfully implemented if President-elect Donald Trump and Congress cooperate to find a workable solution. Mass deportation is not a workable solution. It would be unaffordable, unrealistic, and cause the U.S. economy to plummet. Most importantly, it would cause families to be separated.
Ask Congress to create a legal immigration option that is more accessible and affordable than illegal immigration.
3. Know your rights and options.
Many illegal immigrants have legalization options but they do not know it.
